agriculture
Agriculture is certainly the most outstanding aspect of the countryside. Twenty five farms share the 160 hectares suitable for cultivation and half of the production sold is organic.
The dividing up of the plots forms a patchwork which gives the island the image of a big vegetable garden. This dividing up also explains why carthorses are still used sometimes. The fertilisation by means of seaweed is an old practice which is still used to this day.
The traditional crops are the early potato and cauliflower but, due to diversification, you can also see, depending on season, shallots, parsley, fennel, salads...
tourism
Tourism is still very seasonal but tends to develop throughout the year, indeed there are many people who appreciate discovering the multiple faces of the island.

fishing
Fishing is also an important activity on the island. Around ten fishing boats using either nets or pots bring back to sheltered water an important selection of fish and seafood species. The fishing flotilla owns only one trawler. Almost all products caught are unloaded in Roscoff but some people sell them on the island. The seaweed-harvesting boats, with their famous “scoubidou”, supply seaweed to the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food-processing industries.
